2019 Mapleworks CX Clinic

I’m a tried and true Mountain Bike rider, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for Cyclocross. Half road bikes, half mountain bikes, all fun. Plus something different to do during the fall and winter months. I’ve been racing and riding cyclocross since the mid-1990s, and even did a few “serious” seasons racing when we lived in Colorado. Nowadays, I enjoy our local weekly cyclocross practices in a Haymarket park far more than I enjoy paying to suffer for 45 minutes during a race.

So when my buddy Jared and his Mapleworks Coaching crew invited me to participate in their fall cyclocross skills clinic, I was pretty excited. The August weather was a bit hot for “traditional” cyclocross, but that didn’t stop us from working on some fundamentals and advanced drills. While not exactly the same as mountain biking, the same fundamentals of body position, balance, and stability apply regardless of what type of bike you ride, or on what terrain. Overall, I think the clinic was a big success, and I look forward to hearing how the race season goes for our local crew.
